“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”

That is to say, we are always learning whether it be in a school capacity or not. Every time we repeat an action, we’re learning. Or, every time we try something new, we’re learning. John Dewey, the author of this quote, believe in progressive education. Simply, this meant an emphasis on learning by doing. He believe reality must be experienced in order to be understood. With our hands-on projects, we couldn’t agree more!

This education quote is coined by Maimonides, a medieval philosopher. He sets out the principles of the wealth of education. Additionally, it draws upon the philosopher’s idea of a “moral character” and the idea of free will. We must teach ourselves the qualities of kindness, openness, and humility.

“All sorts of things can happen when you’re open to new ideas and playing around with things.”

American chemist Stephanie Kwolek is best known for inventing Kevlar — a heat-resistant strong synthetic fabric. As we can see from her quote, she is also a big advocate of hands-on education. What’s more, she encourages the stepping out of ones comfort-zone and the need for open-mindedness. Perhaps take this as a sign to learn something new or a work on a new skill!

Albert Einstein is full of great quotes. But, this one especially draws upon the fundamentals of STEAM learning. Creativity and learning do not have to be unharmonious. Instead, they really on one another to unlock new ideas and inventions. Einstein is also quoted saying that in order to understand something fully, you should be able to explain it simply.
