But, long gone is the need for over-spending and maximalism. Instead, younger generations opt for &#8220;Secret Santa&#8221; gift exchanges. Here, they share presents that leave a lasting impression on relationships rather than the environment. But, what does this mean? In today&#8217;s blog, we define the idea of &#8220;green gifts&#8221;. And, share some ideas on what to get for your friends and family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-what-are-green-gifts\">What are Green Gifts?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Green gifts are eco-friendly presents which are made sustainably and bought responsibly. What this means is that the materials used in the gift come from either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gooroo.com\/blog\/recycling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recycled<\/a> materials or produced in an environmentally friendly way. Or, they are gifts which are ethically and locally sources. What&#8217;s more, the gift is bought with the knowledge that the receiver will use it. It is not buying stuff for the sake of having it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of eco-friendly presents include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Locally made or handmade. Visiting your communities Winter markets is a great way to support artists without the added cost (both fiscally and environmentally) of travel. As we learnt last week in Gooroo Live, travel contributes significantly to greenhouse emissions and global warming. <\/li><li>Gifts made from recycled sources. Additionally, support businesses that help reduce the waste stream and aim to offset their carbon emissions. You can also opt to make a gift with leftover materials around the house!<\/li><li>Re-gifting. Have you received something you don&#8217;t really need, but think someone else would really enjoy! Then, it&#8217;s okay to re-gift! Of course, care needs to be taken so as not to offend the original giver.
